Hikes

Hiking fans will be thrilled at the Eterle!

Many hiking departures leave from the Val d'Azun but we are also close to hikes leading to summits and mythical sites such as Balaïtous, Vignemale, Brèche de Roland, Mont Perdu...

We recommend the VisoRando application to choose your hikes according to your level. Also pay close attention to the extremely changeable weather in the mountains, on our side we use MeteoBlue for weather forecasts.

You will also find a book in the Eterle library which lists the best walks in the Val d'Azun.

The essentials to discover

The Circus of Gavarnie

Imagine a glacial cirque culminating at 3000 meters above sea level, with one of the highest waterfalls in Europe at its heart (427 metres): this is the Cirque de Gavarnie!

Its neighbours, the cirques of Troumouse and Estaubé and the legendary Brèche de Roland leave you speechless in front of so much beauty and extraordinary dimensions!

Cauterets

Located in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park, Cauterets has the charm of a mountain village and the elegance of a spa town surrounded by exceptional natural sites. At the Pont d'Espagne, classified Grand Site Occitanie, you dive in immersion in a site with multiple waterfalls, starting point for hikes and mountain lakes. Lac de Gaube is undoubtedly the best known, accessible by chairlift or on foot.

Barèges - Grand Tourmalet

Barèges, nestled at the foot of the mythical Col du Tourmalet, has retained all the charm and authenticity of a Pyrenean village, perched at an altitude of 1250 metres. Here, place for relaxation, sport and hydrotherapy, for a real return to the sources. The perched villages of the surroundings invite you to stroll along their narrow streets and the panorama of the mountains. To enjoy an even more incredible view, the Pic du Midi and its 2877 meters of altitude are an essential passage in the Pyrenees. Finally, lovers of wide open spaces will be seduced by a jewel of nature: the Néouvielle Nature Reserve!
